The problem

Manual takeoffs are killing
your growth

Every bid you can't get to is revenue on the table. Every counting error erodes margin.

Takeoffs consume 50%+ of your bid cycle

Counting thousands of devices from drawings by hand — downlights, GPOs, switches, junction boxes — sheet by sheet.

15–20 hrs/week lost to counting

Can't find or afford another estimator

Experienced electrical estimators earn $95K–$130K+. The hiring pool is tiny and ramp time is 3–6 months.

$120K–$150K true cost per hire

One missed device, thousands in margin gone

Underbidding from counting errors is invisible until the job's underway. One rushed takeoff — you eat the difference.

1 error can cost $5K–$30K+

Legacy software takes months to learn

ConEst, Accubid, McCormick — massive database setup, weeks of training, steep learning curves.

4–6 weeks just to configure
The human layer

AI does the counting.
A real estimator has your back.

TakeoffAI isn't software you're left alone with. Annual members get a dedicated in-house electrical estimator — a real person who knows the trade and works your jobs alongside the AI.

  • 5 full takeoffs done for you, every month. Hand over a drawing set, get back a reviewed, bid-ready BOQ.
  • A second set of eyes before you bid. Tricky sheets, odd symbols, tight margins — sanity-checked by a human.
  • No hiring, no $120K salary. Estimator capacity on tap — without another head on payroll.

New — Claude integration

TakeoffAI now integrates with Claude

Your takeoff and your estimate, in one place. TakeoffAI connects with Claude — Anthropic's AI assistant — so once the counting is done, you can ask questions, build the estimate, and get bid-ready without leaving the app. An all-in-one takeoff and estimating workflow.

  • Ask your drawings anything. "How many downlights on level 2?" "Which sheets changed in the addendum?" Plain-English answers, straight from your takeoff data.
  • Go from counts to estimate. Claude helps turn your BOQ into a priced estimate — labour, materials, and margin — using your own rates.
  • Draft the paperwork in seconds. Scopes, exclusions, RFIs, and proposal copy generated from the actual takeoff — ready to review and send.

Claude in TakeoffAI

What's driving the cost on this job, and what should I watch before I bid?
Claude
Biggest cost driver is lighting — 212 downlights across levels 1–3, roughly 38% of material spend at your standard rates. Two things to check before bidding: E-007 shows 3 GPOs not in the legend, and the level 2 data points jumped from 24 to 31 in the latest addendum. Want me to draft the estimate with a line-item breakdown?
Yes — use my July labour rates.
Integrations

Your counts don't stop at the take-off.

TakeoffAI connects to SimPro, so a finished take-off becomes a priced quote in the system you already run your jobs from — without anyone retyping a bill of quantities.

Push quotes straight to SimPro

Send the finished quote into SimPro from TakeoffAI. No CSV shuffling, no re-keying line items, no transcription errors between the count and the quote.

Priced with your own rates

Counts are costed against your price lists and labour rates before they go across, so what lands in SimPro is a quote you can send, not a raw parts list.

Included free

The SimPro connection is part of the free platform — like every other export. You're only ever charged for the AI take-off itself.

SimPro is a trademark of its respective owner. TakeoffAI is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by SimPro.

Questions

Frequently asked

What types of electrical plans does TakeoffAI support?
Any PDF electrical drawing — residential, commercial, and industrial. Standard symbols including downlights, GPOs, switches, data points, smoke detectors, distribution boards, and more. Multi-sheet sets are fully supported.
How accurate is the AI counting?
95%+ accuracy on standard symbols out of the box, improving over time as you review and confirm counts. Quarterly accuracy audits benchmark AI performance against real project as-builts.
What does it cost?
The software is free — unlimited projects, unlimited users, manual take-off, exports, price lists, your symbol library and the SimPro connection. You only pay when you ask the AI to do a take-off. Plans start at $149 a month for 3 commercial take-offs ($50 each), and Contractor is $349 for 10 ($35 each). Prefer no commitment? Buy a pack of credits and spend them whenever. Either way, if a take-off doesn't deliver you're not charged. See full pricing.
How does this compare to ConEst, Accubid, or STACK?
Legacy tools require weeks of database setup. TakeoffAI gets you to a completed takeoff on your first session — in under 60 minutes. AI does the counting; your estimator focuses on review and winning work.
What does the onboarding sprint include?
A dedicated 60-minute 1-on-1 session using your actual plans. Upload a real drawing set, run the AI takeoff, review and adjust counts, export a finished BOQ you can use immediately.
How does the Claude integration work?
TakeoffAI connects with Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, inside the app. Once your takeoff is done, you can ask questions about your drawings in plain English, turn counts into a priced estimate using your own rates, and draft scopes, RFIs, and proposals from the actual takeoff data — takeoff and estimating in one place.
Does it work with SimPro?
Yes. TakeoffAI connects to SimPro, so you can push a finished quote straight across rather than re-keying a bill of quantities. Counts are priced against your own rates and price lists first, so what arrives in SimPro is a quote you can send. The connection is part of the free platform — you're only ever charged for the AI take-off itself.
Is my plan data secure?
All plans are encrypted in transit and at rest. We never share your drawings or data with third parties. Your project information stays yours — always.

Questions

Pricing FAQ

Is the software really free?
Yes. Unlimited projects, unlimited users, manual take-off, exports, your symbol library, price lists and the SimPro connection — all free, permanently, with no card to start. What costs money is the AI doing a take-off for you, because that's the part with a real cost behind it. You can put that on a monthly plan from $149, or skip the plan entirely and buy a pack of credits to spend whenever. Stop paying either way and you keep your account, your projects and your exports.
What am I actually paying for?
A finished take-off, not a tool to do one with. The AI reads the legend itself, works out what needs counting, counts it, and drops a marker on every single item so you can check its work against the drawing. A commercial job replaces six to ten hours of estimator time and costs $50 a take-off on Solo, or $35 on Contractor.
Why can't I just sign up and try it myself?
Every account is tuned to your own symbol legends and drawing standards before it will count accurately — that's the setup we do with you on the onboarding call. A generic self-serve account gives you a poor first take-off and a wrong impression of the tool, so we don't offer one. Book a 30-minute demo and you'll leave with a real BOQ from your own plans, and a free account already tuned to your drawings.
What counts as an "electrical sheet"?
Only the electrical drawings — never pages in the PDF. Upload the entire binder and we work out which sheets are electrical and count just those. On real jobs we've run, a 25-page binder held one electrical sheet. Fifteen electrical sheets is a large tender set, usually a binder of well over a hundred pages.
What's the difference between a residential and a commercial take-off?
Residential is a house or a unit — typically one or two sheets and a short legend. Commercial is offices, retail, industrial, healthcare and the like, where there's far more to read before anything gets counted. Multi-residential and mixed-use sets sit between the two and we quote those individually. Either way you see the exact price for your job before you spend anything.
Our story

Built by tradies.
For tradies.

We're not a Silicon Valley startup that stumbled onto construction. We came up through the trade — and we built the tool we wished existed.

We noticed a problem nobody was fixing.

Jonah and AJ spent years in the electrical trade in Melbourne. On the tools. Reading plans. Running jobs. Quoting work at the kitchen table at 10pm because there wasn't enough time during the day.

The estimating process was broken — and everyone in the industry just accepted it. You'd spend 15 to 20 hours a week counting symbols by hand, sheet by sheet, praying you hadn't missed a room. Legacy software like Accubid or ConEst took weeks to set up and still required someone to do the counting manually.

Smaller contractors couldn't afford a full-time estimator. Larger ones were buried in bottlenecks. And the tools built to help? They were designed for people with a month to spare and an IT team to configure them.

We knew there had to be a better way.

So we built it.

TakeoffAI started with a simple idea: what if AI could do the counting? Not as a gimmick. Not as a "coming soon" feature. Actually count — every downlight, GPO, switch, data point, smoke detector — off a real PDF drawing set, in seconds.

We spent months building and testing on real plans from real Australian jobs. Commercial fitouts. Residential subdivisions. Industrial facilities. We obsessed over accuracy because we knew from experience that one missed device can cost thousands.

The result is TakeoffAI — an AI estimating engine that replaces the worst part of your bid cycle, without replacing your estimator.

Why we're different from every other tool.

Most construction software is built by people who've never set foot on a job site. They build features that look good in demos but fall apart on real drawings.

We're ex-tradies from Melbourne. We speak the language. We know what a messy set of plans looks like. We know the pressure of a Friday afternoon bid deadline. And we built TakeoffAI around that reality — not a sanitised version of it.

This isn't a faceless SaaS product. It's a tool built by two people who care deeply about the trade and want to see Australian contractors win more work, stress less, and build better businesses.

Jonah

AJ

AJ

Co-founder

Grew up around the trade. Worked his way through the industry before co-founding TakeoffAI. Obsessed with building things that actually work on the job.

We started TakeoffAI because we wanted to build something with so much real value that it genuinely improves people's lives — not just their workflow. When a contractor wins a job they would've missed because they could finally bid it on time, that matters to us.
